I think it's an interesting one with including fans, it will only ever go one of two ways and generally the fans don't have good ideas (which is way clubs pay professionals to design stuff) BUT sometimes just giving them a feeling of inclusion is enough to say "we took all of your suggestions and matched it with the branding to come up x/y/z".
I know some everton fans that still don't like the current crest but are happy because the fanbase was included in the process.
