I haven't seen many of his films either and idk why I'm recommending this to you because you probably won't like it, but the original Jurassic Park was a "great" movie. I think it did a good job of capturing the fascination and wonder of dinosaurs if you can look past all the bull**** that makes big money in Hollywood.

Edit: Also, Hook (just because it's fun). And I've heard good things about The Color Purple and Lincoln, but I've never seen them.
