I like to think we are more important than filling in the holes. If you’re a bassist and that is all you do then you’re not putting much effort into your music.

Geddy and Alex write the music in the band and push each other to be better. But they remain best of friends when the music is over. Neil writes the lyrics and calls Geddy and Alex when it is time to go to work. If all 3 of them are not happy with a song it is dumped. 30 Years of making music.

As for Paul and John they were in constant competition with each other but they never could put the work aside and just be buds. Lots of bands do that and it ends in a break-up. Competing with each other to write great music is good but you have to leave it in the studio. It's too bad they couldn't have done so and gave us more great music.
