Noooo , runs much deeper than that.
Maiden supported Preist on their British Steel tour , this was supposed to be the tour that catapulted Priest into superstardom. Maiden were going down a hell of a lot better than Priest were , so Priest decided to stop letting them have soundchecks & basically treated them like ****.
The following year Priest concentrated on America at the expense of their British fan base & put out the awful Point Of Entry album while Maiden`s popularity got stronger & stronger.
After that Priest put out Screaming For Venegence & became huge in the US & totally turned their backs on the UK , in fact they didn`t play a gig in the UK for 6 years afterwards in 1988. Leaving a lot of hardcore Priest fans feeling pissed off. Meanwhile during that time Maiden stayed loyal to their British fans & became the biggest metal band from there. Both bands refused to ever be on the same bill as each other & avoided each other like the plague.
In fact it wasn`t until 1992 that the 2 bands finally buried the hatchet.
