The premise and themes of neglect are strong enough to hold it up. The payoff definitely could have been better though.
Think about it though, what's scarier: some family getting killed in a small town or a new incarnation of Slipknot, out there in the world, waiting to make a big impact on the music world with diluted metal ideas?
