Separate bedrooms are almost always better. Living in the same house/apartment is entirely unnecessary, I think (even if you're married) unless you need to for financial reasons. Unless of course you both have very compatible living habits and similar decorating tastes.
After living with a human tornado and a rage-y alcoholic, living alone in a cave sounds like heaven.
