This seems to be an ominous development to me, for two reasons:-
i) throwing heavy artillary and big bombs at troops is often strategically ineffective. It didn't help much in the First World War, and it didn't help much in Vietnam.
ii) at a time when most of the world is worried about N.Korea's escalating military showmanship, the US is setting a pretty bad example.
Depending on how many innocent Afgans have been killed, it could also turn into another home goal in the game of international
PR, if you know what I mean; that the Afgans will not see the US as protecting them from extremists, but as aggressors instead.
