These days I would probably say The Shining because of how disconcerting it is and it feels like you're going insane. The Strangers was visceral and frightening on a rea world level. The Nightmare was also scary in that way. TBH though I think I'm desensitized to scary things in film.

i watched that recently and while some of enactments were decent it was overall a pretty ****ing lame film despite the fact it was dealing with one of the scariest conditions in existence.
