On my system vinyl sounds way better than any digital format, but I think that's largely because I don't use a seperate DA converter - there have been well publicised tests where people couldn't tell the difference between vinyl and CD, however these were conducted on high end systems. If your DA conversion is being done on your computer or consumer grade CD player, I believe it's more likely that you will get a noticeably better sound from vinyl. As Ori pointed out it also depends on the album as many releases are mastered separately for vinyl.
