I never said he got their "everybody knows them" status, but he was innovating far more, and more informed too before the Beatles did it....and had way better drumming

Zappa's "Return of the son of monster magnet" originally had a fully notated orchestra score (which accompanied the band) but at the last minute his arrangements where cut and it was released the way it is.
