I have herd of them as Grunge (hence the genre I have them under now), is this true, what albums recflect this style.

I think it mainly reffers to that fact they had long hair and came out around the grunge period. Pretty much every band that didn't dress up fancy and played rock and had long hair was being labelled grunge.
