500 is a benchmark number. I think the protagonist in the Hornby novel mentioned the number 500 as being a minimum for a serious music collector. I never even listen to my vinyl any more but I still have over 1000 records. It probably maxed out at 2000 (including singles) but tons of it was stolen living in a hippy houses.

I still call digital releases albums, records, and singles. My phone is the only medium I listen to anymore. It's not sound; it's convenience. I don't even have to get out of bed.
