Too convenient for anyone to take a bunch of pictures with their iPhone, sign up on Facebook, and cobble together a bunch of photos of their dog, then announce "I just released my new album".

Great for the ego, not so great for the legacy of real albums.

It harkens back to photo albums when people would put polariods into albums with that filmsy screen over each page. It is fine to continue the tradition of grouping photos digital or physical into folders named albums.
