One time another friend of mine (half Japanese, from California) grabbed a woman's ass at a train station. His Japanese is perfect, and mine was crap at the time because I'd been in Japan only a short time. She screamed and ran to the police box (a mini police station in or around train stations). The cops came out and hauled us in. I was bewildered, because I hadn't even seen him do it. We were both stumbling home drunk from the bar. But I used my limited Japanese and bowed profusely when I understood what my friend had done. I apologized for him, told the cops he was drunk, and promised to make sure he got home safe. The cops let us go with only a warning. I have no idea what happened to the woman, whether she was pissed off nothing happened or what.
