I`m determined to get this finished in the next couple of weeks...

16. AC/DC - IF YOU WANT BLOOD YOU GOT IT (1978)

Holy f*ck what an album. This was the first ever live album I ever bought and I still think it`s the best. This album was pretty much the end of an era as far as AC/DC goes. After this gone was the family produced raw blues rock they became famous for replaced by the slickly produced pop metal of Highway To Hell & Back In Black. You can almost hear the sweat dripping off the walls on this album. The music is just blistering and there isn`t a single duff song on the album. If anything it`s too short (No Sin City , Dirty Deeds , It's a Long Way to the Top , Jailbreak ).But what is there more than makes up for that.Bon Scott in my opinion is one of the greatest frontmen of all time and he`s on top form here screeching , howling & staggering his was through the set with his unmistakeable whiskey soaked growl. His voice just loaded with character.Every single song he sings about you could beleive that these things happened to him whether it be having sex with a 19 stone woman , being ripped off by one or catching something off one , you just know he`s been there done that & got the T shirt. It amazes me when people say AC/DC have been doing the same thing for about the last 30 years. This is light years away from the patch stuff they recorded with Brian Johnson in the 80s and totally different musically. It`s more organic , more rootsy and nobody can tell a story like Bon Scott can.I think anyone who calls themselves a fan of rock music who dismisses AC/DC should be forced to listen to this album until they admit they are wrong. My first AC/DC album I ever owned & still my favourite.

Favourite Songs - Riff Raff , Hell Ain`t A Bad Place To Be , Rock n Roll Damnation , High Voltage

15. SUEDE - SUEDE (1993)

In 1993 I was in a hole musically.I`d been a fan of metal for a few years but to be honest it bored me to death.I remember clearly buying Morbid Angels Blessed Are The Sick album , taking it home based on loads of good things said about it ,and when I finally heard it thinking it was the biggest pile of sh*t I had ever heard in my life. Metal had died for me I needed something new.The music scenes around at the time didn`t do much for me either.I was a bit too young to have caught onto acid house & madchester and most grunge & shoegazing other than a couple of bands did nothing for me whatsoever.
And then if by magic Suede appeared in a blaze of glory. It happened one night watching some late night TV music show. They were talking about the buzz in the media about them (An NME cover before their first single was even out)Then they played a clip from the Animal Nitrate video ...WOAH!!!!!!
I was hooked instantly it was everything I ever wanted in music. It had riffs , it had melody it had sleaze it had it`s roots in the 70s glam rock my mother bought me up on.I fell for it there & then.
When I finally heard the album it was that reaction x 10. I played it all the time then , I still play it all the time now. It`s just hit after hit after hit.I thought things couldn`t possibly get better than Animal Nitrate , then I hear Metal Mickey , The Drowners , Pantomime Horse and So Young. This was the band that bought me back from listening to crap dreary death metal back to my love of British pop again. What a shame Bernard Butler had to leave so early on , something they never really recovered from.

Favourite Songs - So Young , Animal Nitrate , Metal Mickey , The Drowners

14. PULP - HIS & HERS (1994)

I`ve never been one who pays too much attention to lyrics but I think Jarvis Cocker is one of the best lyricists around.Maybe it`s because I can relate to another working class lad better to a bunch of middle class art students , who knows. But what I like about his lyrics the most is he doesn`t dress them up in a thousand cliched metaphores , he just tells it to you straight. This album for me is the story of my teenage years.I can relate to everything in this album whether it be myself or someone i`ve known. It reminds me of growing up , hanging out in leasure centres , meeting girls for the first time ,losing your virginity , trying to get some kids older brother to buy you some booze , awkward sex , joyriding , unwanted pregnancies ... it`s all in here (Although I didn`t hide in any wardrobes & watch people have sex , I think you`re on your own with that one Jarvis).Musically this taught me a lot too.It made me realise there was more to music than just catchy riffs , with lots of keyboards , gentle guitars and Jarvis`s crooning there`s almost a 60s lounge feel to this. You could almost imagine some of the songs being used on some Micheal Caine movie set in London in the 60s.I miss not having Pulp around a lot , The world needs more people like Jarvis Cocker around to bring things down to earth.I hope it`s not long till his next album comes out.

Favourite Songs - Babies , Lipgloss , Do You Remember The First Time , Pink Glove
