That's just dumb.
It's enjoyable on a "pretentious" level but is also just a great, intensely creepy thriller with some great lesbian action.
Oh and the same can be said for Blue Velvet (minus the girl on girl angle). And Hopper's character is one of the craziest, funnest villains ever.
