I prefer Lyft and Uber over cabs by a long shot. Here's why:

I can usually get one to come pick me up at my house within five minutes. Cabs are hard to find in my neighborhood, and if I call to order one, they may or may not show up on time or at all.
You can see exactly where they are on the map which means when it's crappy out you can stay in the bar or whatever until they're about to pull up instead of standing on the sidewalk trying to flag down a cab.
The drivers are generally friendlier than cab drivers and the cars are almost always cleaner than cabs.

In my experience, the only place a cab is more convenient is the airport since there's always a line of them waiting.
