I would stick with your "true" way. People worth their salt know when you're trying for the big bucks.
That doesn't mean that you can't make some adjustments to your sound (new discoveries, changing outlook, ...),
but as long as at it appears as a natural extension, then you could be convincing in the end.

and you don't get the feeling that he's compromising his original interests.
