"Accountability"

Biggest issue right now with police departments and a slew of other departments but I won't get into that.

Nobody is held accountable. Police have this "but we are the police" sort of mentality which to them should exonerate pretty much any crime because, hey, they're the police. Police officers put their lives in danger to keep people safe. Some officers go above and beyond the call of duty and are absolute true heroes. That's only some though. Problem is that EVERY cop sees themselves as heroes. You don't sign up to become a hero. You volunteered to become an officer. You don't get these higher statuses just because you chose to complete a six month course.

Police departments are gangs in the way that they all band together and it's them versus everybody else. They take bribes. They influence people. They intimidate people. They are a mob.

Yet, I'm not anti-cop. I treat every cop I run into with the same respect as I would any other person. I understand that their job means a certain way of behavior when encountering them but I don't consider them any different. I take each encounter as it unfolds. You're a dick? F*ck you, I'm cooperating minimally. You're super nice and doing your job for safety reasons with reason and understanding? What do you need me to do? How can we help each other?

Yet, the police are flawed. HEAVILY flawed. They are scared little men with guns and when they feel "Threatened" they feel their life is more important than another persons so they shoot to kill.

A police officer should put his life in front of another. That's what you signed up for. There is no reason somebody should be killed when they don't have a weapon because the only reason a cop should shoot another person is if he ABSOLUTELY sees a f*cking gun. Not "I feel like he may have been reaching for a gun that I never saw before and may or may not be there". No. F*ck you. You murdered somebody.

It makes me sick.

And yet nobody is held accountable. That cop that just got 20 years wasn't even held that accountable because he shot somebody in the back and was't given life/death penalty. It's disgusting.

Once departments start being held accountable and the culture changes, we'll see change. But that is a tall TALL order.
