I think his most experimental work would be Cannibal Ox only because it's pretty unmatched. El-P's innovation as a producer comes in the way that he layers his music in a dense way that ends up being both futuristic and lo-fi. He certainly utilizes a lot of hip hop roots though, so if you're not into that it can be difficult to appreciate.



I don't like him because his unconventionality has no value or thought behind it. And don't go on about how the dude is a secret genius, I think he's just a genuine idiot unsuccessfully trying to make a mainstream rap album. His best albums are like the last Metallica album where you're just surprised that it doesn't suck as much as you expected.



I'm sure that in 10 years RTJ will be the more poorly aged album of the two and I'll agree with you.
