I also remember reading something about the kid being "good at history and explaining how the jews were partially to blame", so she could have just fallen into the trap of teenage gullibility or whatever you want to call it. When someone you trust introduces you to new ideas you're naive about it's pretty common to take them at their word (since modern education doesn't teach you how to think or skepticism). Honestly, I haven't really been following the story, so sorry if that's a stupid way to assess the situation.

It's like the inverse of when you learn about what Christopher Columbus really was.
