Lots of people take their music seriously. You pretty much have to just take words that people say, even as lyrics, at some sort of face value even if you feel like their lifestyle contradicts that. Who wants to be in a band and not earn any money and just settle for making ****ty music when you can earn lots of money and reach millions of people and use better production equipment to experiment with? Almost any smart person would take it, but few have the opportunity so it's easy for them to turn their noses up at such things.
