It's right up my alley in the sense that it's metal that doesn't conform to one specific genre playbook. The music on this album reminds me of too many different other artists to count. Voivod one second, Death another, Arkona a moment later, etcetera. A lot of these moments, I don't even know what kind of metal to categorize this album as. This doesn't mean that the sound is incoherent. It very much isn't. There's a very confident sense of direction to this album. A lot of extreme metal compositions have a very disjointed feel, but the songs on this album have a real sense of flow. No disjointed, lazy compositions in sight.
Really good stuff.
