The third and final album in the "Berlin Trilogy." Unlike "Heroes" (recorded entirely in Berlin) and "Low" (partially recorded in Berlin) "Lodger" has no Berlin connection and was recorded in Switzerland and New York.
Adrian Belew joins the band as a guitarist to replace Robert Fripp and Bowie decides to drop the instrumental tunes for a more avant pop/rock style, creating what is probably the most experimental album of his career.
This one is a close second to "Low" for me among the three in the trilogy. Not a bad song in the bunch, "D.J." is the only song here that wears thin for me with repeated listens when compared with the rest of the songs on the album. The last track "Red Money" is basically the song "Sister Midnight" (from Iggy Pop's "The Idiot" album) with different lyrics, so it's pretty much a de facto cover song.
4/5 overall.
