It wasn't honor. From what we know of the guys' history he's not a man of honor. It was the silver spoon boy/man being scared ****-less about going.

Whatever the motivation, he avoided becoming a war crimibal so the outcome is solid imo. Joining the military isn't something that we should pretend is noble.
