Absolutely underrated band. Great songs, lots of hits. They fall in the same category as Queen in being totally different from what's going on (only a few groups actually manage this) that said they seen what sounds great and try to form a similar strong sound.
Hysteria happens to be one of my top ten albums of all time never have i heard an album of such quality (rocket and gods of war among fave songs).

Yeah ... Leppard were nothing more than another rock band who went the AOR route. I personally like them - I have Pyromania - but I don't see them as being innovative in any way. You might as well call Journey or Asia or Bon Jovi innovative. FFS.
Not quite sure how you can call them underrated when everyone knows "Animal", "Pour Some Sugar on Me" etc but okay. I'd call them a decent AOR band, but I see nothing they contributed to the music scene that makes them deserving of such praise.
Also, Phil Lynott is dead, in case you weren't aware.
