Or maybe you could just not quit things that frustrate you. If the whole game were like that then I'd chuck it out the window but in the context of this level it adds to the tension since you just want to get the hell out and you think you can skip a bunch of Flood who are all chilling below you but then you get lost and fight them all anyway frantically searching for the exit so hope and reality clash and make the Flood scarier than they'd be on their own. Unfortunately the designers did their job a little too well and if you have a bad sense of direction it gets legit frustrating.
