I can't remember what got posted when we discussed it before but with steak it's OK as the bacteria that can make you ill is on the surface so you can eat it rare but with burgers the surface area is everywhere as it's been minced.
I think someone said in theory you can get ill from rare burgers but it's very unlikely.
