So you've never seen the aftermath of a fire and therefore you don't know how common it is for things to randomly be saved from the fire's path. They don't incinerate every bit of matter in their path (that actually sounds more like a laser to me than anything), they take on burn patterns based on what's fueling them and how the winds are affecting them. Real forest fires are chaotic and unpredictable.
