Hello there!

As music is strongly related with our common life, no surprise that it can leave its mark in the history as well. In this context, two Portuguese songs have been remarkable during 1974 Carnation Revolution, announcing the beginning and the end of the coup.

The first song was E Depois Do Adeus by Paulo de Carvalho. His performance during 19th Eurovision Song Contest at Brighton was a signal to start the revolution.

Once the coup leaders had taken control over the strategic parts of Portugal, Rádio Renascença had aired another song as a signal of overthrowing hitherto authoritarian regime and beginning democratic rules: Grândola, Vila Morena by Zeca Afonso.
