It doesn't at all sound like pop music though. Teenage Jesus sounds like pop music with no pretensions at even sounding good but it's still of the genre on some level. There's a connection and that's why it feels more bizarre to me than Metal Machine Music. Whatever MMM qualifies as I'm not as familiar with as Teenage Jesus and that makes it feel more ****ed up to an extent. Metal Machine Music is on an alien level but the very sound of it makes me understand that I'm supposed to approach it like that. Teenage Jesus makes me feel like I'm supposed to understand it and being as flummoxed as I am by it is more engaging tbh. I still like MMM much more but it actually doesn't feel as hostile.
