I am just curious why you think it's close to one.
I don't see it at all. Indie Pop, is pop music.

Record Label Status = Indie
Genre Of Music = Pop

There is where Indie Pop comes from.
Nothing more, the term 'indie' doesnt affect the sound of the music.
