It's only "their team" in the sense that they've been brainwashed into thinking that people they've never met represent their "country" full of people they've never met in a contest of nations whose people likewise have nothing to do with those teams other than possibly having more genetic material in common.

If it was simply about having fun watching sports ball then NO ONE WOULD FEEL THE NEED TO FLY FLAGS CAUSE THEY HAVE **** ALL TO DO WITH SPORTS BALL. It's simply a "family friendly" way to stoke nationalism.
