The actual story structure wasn't all that memorable, but the narratives of the characters' stories were very memorable which is far more than I can say for many GTA games.

Yeah plot has never been a strong point in the series, maybe that's why I felt like IV stood out a bit more. Just in taking itself 'too seriously' as some would put it, it did add more weight to the story then the other GTAs.
I actually think Niko and Michael are pretty similar characters in regards to their pasts, their desire to get out of crime, their frustrations with the people around them, and their **** it all attitude.
