They don't just prescribe stuff willy nilly over here. It was about three years until I was prescribed any medication, I had already done several lots of counselling and talking therapy. Once I was prescribed something it became easier to get it in future but there are hoops to jump through. It's very difficult to get repeat prescriptions also for things like SSRIs. Mine is on repeat now, but that took six months or so and they don't like giving you them without appointments.

I've never had an experience where a prescription wasn't suggested upon first visit with a counselor. They misdiagnosed me with ADHD and gave me medication based on that. Ever since I hadn't trusted medication until recently when considering bipolar medication where I'd see a psychiatrist every week. I can't afford that though. So I just have to deal with it.
