Geinoh Yamashirogumi - Ecophony Rinne (1986)

This was the beginning of the legendary lineup that recorded the Akira soundtrack I believe. Saw them mentioned in another thread and it sparked a desire to jump back into their catalog. Devilishly beautiful music with a nice late 80's sheen.

Lonnie Liston Smith - Rejuvenation (1985)

Probably the best smooth jazz artist of all time besides Pat Metheny, and this album is a good indication as to why. Dreamlike, but surprisingly experimental when you least expect it. And the melodies are just perfect, topped off with Smith's uncanny ability to blend Bossa Nova grooves with a Pharoah Sanders-ian sense of spirituality.
