4 years ago I went to the ER after a bad accident and got a few stitches. I had a $1200 bill that I never paid and it had gone to collections a long time ago. It's now down to $185. Once in a while I'll get an automated message from the collection agency and I just hang up, but I'll be settling that debt as soon as the holidays are over since it's the only blemish on my credit.
My bad advice for today: If you don't care about your credit, wait a little while and they'll take what ever they can get.
