Also, speaking of hobbits, did you ever read LOTR? It seems like something you'd have missed and I think you missing out on the quasi-outsider art of JRR Tolkien would be colossal tragedy. I mean you can call him a fantasy writer but he was a weird ****ing guy who wrote some works in Norse skaldic poetry just cause he was obsessed with (and highly educated in) Norse mythology. I don't know how much you'd care about the actual novels but the bizarre level of detail and obsession he gave to his history of Middle-Earth for several decades (two decades before he even wrote The Hobbit) sounds like the kind of thing you'd love as a research topic.
Yeah I just spent the last twenty minutes thinking about how you should check out Tolkien. It was ill-disguised nerd ranting in my own head but I feel it was justified.
