It's a quiet Sunday at the office so I'm keeping productive. I've embarked upon a new data visualization project - my grandest undertaking to date. I'm going to construct a 3D network map of over 13,000 of the albums in my archive clustered and interconnected by shared subgenres. I'll likely employ a Fruchterman Reingold force-directed layout algorithm and color code the genre parent nodes to enhance comprehension and understanding. This will highlight large sub-libraries of my archive better than any previous infographic.
To get started I've researched open source applications to compile and export ID3 metadata for the visualization. I'm 800 words into a paper I started writing this morning on the project to document my research and to explore the scope and advantages in greater detail.
Hooray for Sundays!
