If it weren't for those evil capitalists, the only people today who would have access to any sort of legit personal computing would be government workers and university employees / researchers. Until the free market got involved, the interfaces were inefficient (and that's a nice way of putting it). You only reap the benefits of the internet in its current state (and associated tech) because you had innovative people in the private sector who wanted to create better products and services. When has government ever gone out of its way to become more efficient or cost-effective for the average person?
