Ace of Cups - Ace of Cups (2018)
The Ace of Cups finally got to record a debut album after 51 years. Featuring 4 of the 5 original members of the group; Mary Gannon, Denise Kaufman, Mary Ellen Simpson, and Diane Vitalich. Original member Marla Hunt is still around but declined to participate in the recording.
A double album packed with 3 albums worth of songs in varying styles including pop, rock, folk, blues, a capella. All original songs featuring the 4 members of the band and some with guest musicians including Taj Mahal, Charlie Musselwhite, David Grisman, and Bob Weir (among others).
The album sounds rooted in the late 60's and runs just over 2 hours, so there's a lot to take in. Some of the songs seem to gel better than others but overall it's a good listen and there are definitely some sonic gems sprinkled throughout.
