Default name that tune...

Name that tune...

Much of my favorite music is encompassed in the genre known as "new wave": pop/rock/electronic etc., music from the late 70's to the early 90s.

Now, back then, I used to tape the songs directly from the radio --- student run college stations. But I was never really interested in the names of the artists/bands because back then I couldn't afford to buy the records anyway. Anyway, there are dozens and dozens of songs that I have on cassette tapes in which I don't have a clue as to who performs them. I try a lyric search and sometimes I find the artist and sometimes I don't.

So, on this thread, as I come to these songs on my cassettes, I'll jot down some of the lyrics. If any of you are familiar with the artists, I'd appreciate a name please. Thanks.

First up:

It's time to get up and start earning [or "this morning"]...Hello, Barbara this is Mag....I'm not getting out of bed...you can't make me...It' 8 o'clock....it's 9 o'clock...it's 10 o'clock etc. to 12 o'clock

Rock song

Our future was in the past...this one [love?] cannot last...this sin of mine...this hell of mine

================================================== ===============

new wave

And you know he was looking for the truth.. you know he was looking for the truth...he had to be there.
you know he's on [the right path?]
He told me he ain't gonna be happy...he ain't gonna be happy ...today.

================================================== ===========

well i could be wrong...you could be happy...you could be just like part of the family

What did you say that you'd be when you grow up...we'll be lucky my darling if you even show up

Did you ask me a question...i could give an example...i could make a suggestion

================================================

i lost myself in you...i began to fall right through holes I made for you...and i see through the ceiling...dreaming of tomorrows that won't come...it's another lost confusion dragging me down

================================================== ===

when chris was nineteen his dad died...they found him lying in his room...he was stretched towards his freedom...just like a jailed man turned loose

================================================== ===

don't put your nails into me...[it] is all i can do...i'm not singing, i'm not singing...I'm telling you...it doesn't pay to look away...the less freedom i lose then...something's wrong...something's wrong...I'm not singing, I'm not singing...I'm telling you

================================================== =======

songs like this are particularly tricky. I can barely make out the lyics. In part because the stations I listened to [like WJHU out of Johns Hopkins university] were [at the time] tiny 10 watters that I could only record in mono

all the girls [must be boys]...walk out the door...his [personal super hero]? his personal super hero...his personal super hero

================================================== =======

Female vocalist

be silent my heart...thereafter i entered the harbor of the [isle]... the people were [ ] and singing as merry men...the sons invited me to enter the city...the brilliance of my boat had rendered them blind
