Music Banter - View Single Post - some interlude music I hear on late-night/early-morning radio

Many late-nights/early-mornings I listen to public radio: CBC, BBC, NPR/PRI, AusBC, Midori, and maybe a few others.

For almost 20 years—maybe this particular music goes before that—I've been occasionally hearing this music—or about a minute or so of it.

No one's identified it and it's instrumental.

I suppose I'll try to give an accurate, and a subjective, description.

It's likely somewhat electronic, but maybe not. It's somewhat mellow and lounge-y, futuristic. I don't know if I'm describing the instruments, or electronic/digital equivalents, they might be playing. It starts with mellow bass sound. Bass guitar or synth? I down know. Then there's one that sounds like a reedy woodwind. English horn? Oboe? I might have heard similar in early Genesis. Then there's an electric piano, or again, something that sounds like it.

Subjectively, it's perfect night, or early morning, music—hence my interest. Think LA Woman, but not as fast, or that Myles Davis song (?)—the one with the bassoon?, but something that makes me think of the turn of the Third Millennium. 1999, 2000, 2001 before 911 (before, perhaps, we started to get more stupid). Fluorescent lights—not eye-killing—just a hint of futurism in the night.

I suppose it's only a matter of time before I find it, though it might take a few years. Upon that, I'll probably post it in this thread. Even if you can't name it: advice on how to find it might help.

Even diversions are profitable.

To change the subject slightly, I heard a song in Spanish. It was weird and wonderful, with a snare and echo-ey voice. It thought "Mexican Björk," and spent several hours looking for it—googling and the like. I never found it online, but on—I think a Mexican forum—the name "Ximena Sariñana" was mentioned, and while she wasn't at all what I was looking for, I'm happy I discovered her music.

Months later, likely a year or two, I found the song I was looking for online was by a Colombian-artist-now living in Canada, Lido Pimienta. I still haven't found a link to the song—I think it's her early stuff, but I'm glad I didn't give up. (another song of hers that sounds like Björk below)
