The fact you associate "nostalgic appreciation" of something with the idea of something being "dated" is wrong. Bands like The Midnight or GUNSHIP wouldn't dominate Bandcamp unless they were able to achieve relevency for a large subset of people. The vast majority of fans of bands like that weren't even alive in the 80's.
But whatevs. Expecting nuance in these kinds of discussions is just asking to be let down.
