I like Clear Spot a lot too, just not as much as his weirder stuff. I even like the Safe As Milk era better than the funky/poppier stuff he was doing on Clear Spot and Spotlight Kid.
Even Unconditionally Guaranteed and Bluejeans and Moonbeams have their appeal. They're not bad albums, they're bad Beefheart albums because of the bar he set for himself. Clear Spot it's like a 7 on the Beefometer even though in the grand scheme of things it's a 5/5.
