...your good friend's sister, who was also a good friend of yours passes. She had been diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer a couple of years ago, and she finally passed peacefully in her sleep this morning. She left behind 2 boys, one autistic and one a Chemical Engineer, and a husband who would have given her the world if she'd have asked for it.
I was playing a round of disc golf when I got a text yesterday that she might not make it through the night. I kept it to myself and went on with the round, only to have the rain wash us out after a few more holes. I went home and waited. Nothing. I went to bed and got up and came to work, where I remembered to check my phone and there it was. I didn't want to read it. This was a person who had opened up her home multiple times for many, many people, did volunteer work on a daily basis, and took in more stray animals than anyone I've ever met. She was a year younger than me.
She also never smoked a day in her life.
R.I.P. my friend.
