Yeah, but it wasn't really the same. It's like arguing Dre's production isn't new because people have always sampled soul and funk. But the way he did it was unique.

Same with Kanye West. Hip hop had always used soul samples but the way he did it had a specific sound that wasn't prominent prior but after he did it every body tried to emulate it.
