I mean you could have just admitted that what you're doing now is pointless besides being a bridge to something that you think might be actually worthwhile. I think that kind of honesty would be refreshing in the current climate to combat the self-satisfied bull**** that allows everyday people to recycle and pretend that it's counteracting multinational corporate pollution.
TBH I think the thing that turns everyday people off the most is actually just how Disney-fied the whole conservationist thing is presented to the public. Just do this little thing that everyone secretly knows isn't that important and you're good for doing everything else that supports the destruction of the world. God forbid you should be honest about just how intense the situation actually is.
