You implied it by saying that it's not normal, insinuating that their preferences are absurd, and then doubled down on not respecting their preferences with those quote marks.
Despite the heated initial reaction, we're more than willing to have a respectful discussion about trans people and pronouns since it's new to you, but not if you're just going to cling to insensitivity the whole time.
