Did you read any of what Big3 said after me? He seemed to get it.
Someone who has spent time looking at, say, the latter part of the Roman Empire's history, followed the campaigns of the Mongols, etc. can understand what I'm talking about. You will never live in a world where there isn't something akin to a global superpower, especially with where society is today. The question you need to ask yourself is - if the U.S. as you know it was completely dismantled tomorrow, who would fill those boots and would they be more humane in some way overall? I'd say no, since China and Russia are the two most likely candidates who would do so under those circumstances. Candidate #3 (longer shot) might be Saudi Arabia.
One of the reasons (as OH pointed out) that I wanted Yang to win was because I wanted someone leading the U.S. who was A. Technical B. Compassionate and C. Innovative and flexible in ways that Bernie isn't and expand the safety net as needed. Because the only thing that is going to save humanity from itself is better technology coupled with better policy that takes into account a decrease in scarcity brought about by those advancements.
